Description
This is an early black basalt inkwell from the late 1700s or early 1800 period.....emb letter O on bottom...(quill pen is only shown for display and does not come with the inkwell)....It has 3 small holes for holding quill feather ink pens around a larger central hole for dipping into the ink .....engine turned design around the outside surface.....1 1/2"tall x 2"round.....It has some small chips on the inner edge of middle hole & the cone inside has broken off and is rattling around inside bottle; no other damage. Although unmarked (except for the letter O) it is probably Wedgwood because they produced many of the early basaltware inkwells. I guarantee this basalt inkwell is over 200 years old
